Police said 27-year-old Cornelia Lynn Moore called 911 around 12:30 p.m. Saturday to report that a silver Dodge Charger was "following her and engaging in 'road rage'-type behavior." She said a person in the Charger was pointing a gun at her, and later said the Charger had struck her vehicle.

Moore then reported that the person in the Charger shot her. Moore was able to give police her location before she became unresponsive, police said.

Officers spotted Moore's black BMW near the 9400 block of Interstate 35 on the southbound service road and found her with a single gunshot wound. Police and Austin-Travis County EMS medics tried to treat Moore but she was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:07 p.m.

Austin police have also identified two people who were in the Dodge Charger, 30-year-old Tony McCullough and 32-year-old Raffinee McCorkle, and have charged both with murder.

Sept. 7, 2021: After a brief standoff at a Northeast Austin apartment complex Saturday night, police arrested a 30-year-old man they believe shot and killed a woman in an apparent fit of road rage.

The homicide is the third shooting death reported in less than a week.

The man, who has not yet been identified by police, was taken into custody after the standoff, which occurred shortly before 10 p.m. The standoff was in the 1500 block of East Howard Lane near Dessau Road.

But the incident started earlier in the day when a woman called 911 to report that a driver pulled a gun on her. She made a second call to police to say she had been shot.

The calls came in around 12:32 p.m. and police responded to the 12000 block of the Interstate 35 North service road, near Walnut Park Crossing and Park 35 Circle.

Police found the woman with a gunshot wound, said officer Michael Bullock, a police spokesman. She was pronounced dead at the scene after being treated by police and an EMS crew.

Investigators then tracked a suspect to an apartment complex on East Howard Lane and tried to draw him outside, Bullock said.

"Every lead gets run down, and just through a series of information that was collected, is what led us to this location," Bullock said.

Although the man initially refused to leave the apartment, he eventually surrendered to members of the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force, a coalition of local, state and federal law enforcement personnel under the U.S. Marshals Service.

The man was taken into custody, and a second person, a woman, was detained and questioned about her possible involvement in the shooting, police said.

"At this time, we do believe we have everybody involved in this incident, either under arrest or being detained," he said.

Police were still investigating what led to the shooting or whether the driver and the woman knew each other, Bullock said.

Charges against the man are pending.

Last week, Austin police responded to two deadly shootings Wednesday, which pushed the year's homicide death toll to 55. Police are investigating more homicides this year than in any other since at least 1985, when 52 people were killed.

The first homicide involved a shooting in the 2100 block of Burton Drive near East Oltorf Street around midnight. Austin-Travis County EMS and officers found a 34-year-old man, who has not been identified, with gunshot wounds.

"It also appeared as if the male had been run over by a vehicle," police said in a statement Thursday. "Despite life-saving measures, the male subject succumbed to his injuries."

No suspects are in custody and police are unsure of what led up to the incident, Bullock said last Wednesday.

A second shooting about an hour later on East Riverside Drive and South Pleasant Valley Road left a 67-year-old man dead. Bullock said the man was found in a tent near the shooting. Police are still looking into what led to the shooting or how many people were involved.

Police do not believe either of the two shootings in Southeast Austin are related.
